Late Strictly star’s son to relaunch charity giving tree in his memory

Len was a Celebrity Ambassador and dedicated supporter of the charity and his son James will be relaunching the Goodman Tree - a fundraising memory tree in his name - at the event.

The event is taking place on Sunday 28 June in the grounds of the hospice in Rook Lane, Bobbing.

It’s open to all and Demelza is inviting people to join them for the day to explore the beautiful hospice gardens, including the calming Garden of Tranquillity.

Visitors will be able to treat themselves to locally grown plants and fresh produce from Demelza’s grounds.

On the day there will also be a flower arranging activity, a local beekeeper demonstration with honey tasting and refreshments and light snacks will be available.

Demelza is also delighted to announce that James Goodman will be officially reopening the Goodman Tree as part of the open garden event.

The tree, the creation of which was inspired by Len and his passionate support of Demelza over the years, offers people the chance to purchase a copper leaf as a meaningful way to remember or celebrate the life of a loved one.

The leaves are a unique tribute, which can be engraved with a personal message and will be displayed in a prominent memorial in the peaceful Garden of Tranquillity.

The open gardens event is from 10am to 4pm, with the Goodman Tree due to be relaunched at 2pm.

Demelza’s Individual Giving Manager, Lauren Croud, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming people to the beautiful gardens at our Sittingbourne site.

“We’ve held open garden events in the past and they are always really popular.

“This year, we’re delighted that James Goodman will be joining us to relaunch the Goodman Tree in memory of his father.

“Len was a huge supporter of Demelza and we’re honoured to have his name on such a meaningful memorial.”

Entry to the garden costs £5 per person, which includes a hot drink.
