Demelza's new website scoops international industry award

Demelza’s new website has won best designed site at an international industry awards event.

The site, which was designed by website agency YoYo Design, launched in October last year and scooped the accolade at the Umbraco Awards 2026 yesterday (Wednesday).

The new site has improved engagement and accessibility for users and ensures families, healthcare professionals and supporters can connect with Demelza more effectively.

The decision to redesign the site was part of Demelza’s five-year strategy to increase the use of digital technology across the organisation and the aim of the new site was to be more inclusive and intuitive.

Judges said Yoyo had created a “warm, playful and approachable website which beautifully mirrors Demelza’s physical spaces, while providing a highly flexible editing experience for the back-office team."

They said the website stands out for the way it “softens the typical “clinical” feel of healthcare sites with a conscientious, accessible design and a smart, uplifting balloon theme that perfectly captures the charity’s heart.”

They also felt the design excellence of the sites gives visitors a clean and uncluttered experience while giving the team a thoughtful and intuitive block-grid setup.

Demelza was one of only three websites, and the only UK-based one, to be shortlisted in the category and the results were announced at Codegarden in Copenhagen, a conference held by Umbraco, a content management system company.

Demelza’s Senior Marketing Manager, Emilie Bowes-Read, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have won this international award.

“Our new site is faster, more accessible and more user-friendly and everyone has been so pleased with it, so it’s fantastic to have it recognised in this way.

“It was a collaborative effort with our amazing partners Yoyo and we’d like to congratulate them for their success in this.”

Yoyo's Development Team, which worked on the Demelza site, said: "Building Demelza's new site was a pleasure to be part of - the collaboration across the team was seamless and solving unique design challenges together made the entire process incredibly rewarding.

"Winning Umbraco Awards is no mean feat and we are delighted all our hard work has been recognised.

"Demelza - you guys were a pleasure to work with and this award is truly deserved - well done."

“We’re absolutely delighted to have won this international award."
