Demelza looking for volunteer drivers to support families

Demelza is holding a drop-in event to encourage people to sign up as volunteer drivers to support families with transport.

Demelza has a team of more than 1,000 volunteers who work across the charity and are vital in ensuring Demelza can deliver extraordinary care to extraordinary children with serious or life-limiting conditions.

The charity is seeking to recruit some more volunteer drivers to become part of the existing team of practical support volunteers.

The role of a volunteer driver is to help families with transport when needed, such as getting to hospital appointments, with hospice visits and to get them to events.

Volunteer driving is a flexible role and you can offer as many hours as you’re able to – any time you can give makes a difference.

The only requirements to be a volunteer driver are that you have held a full UK driving license for at least two years and are at least 21-years-old. All our volunteers will be required to undertake a DBS check and all expenses will be reimbursed.

The drop-in event will take place at Demelza’s Sittingbourne site in Rook Lane, Bobbing, on Wednesday 16 July, from 10am to 1pm.

Anyone who’s interested is invited to come along to find out more about what the role involves. Some of our existing volunteers will be there to answer any questions, and anyone who would like to sign up will be able to do so on the day.

Demelza’s Practical Support Service Lead, Mary Goodger, said: “By helping our families with transport, you’re offering comfort and care when it matters most. Your time gives families the freedom to focus on what truly matters – caring for their child.

“We would encourage anyone who is interested in finding out more to come along to our drop-in event where you’ll be able to meet the team, hear real stories and learn how you can make a difference in your community.

“We have lots of other volunteering roles if driving isn’t for you. Please take a look at our website to see our currently volunteering opportunities.”

If you are planning to come along to the drop-in information session, please register here.
