Cheryl Baker joined children and families to paint a sculpture for Demelza's summer art trail.

The singer, who is one of Demelza’s Celebrity Ambassadors, visited the charity's Sittingbourne site on Monday (April 14).

Around 50 families supported by Demelza were there to take part in the charity’s annual spring event, where they could join in with games and crafts before taking to a trail to search out Easter eggs and get acquainted with some visiting bugs and animals from Teynham-based Creepy Claws.

Children then had the chance to join Cheryl in painting a tortoise, which will be one of 10 sculptures forming Demelza’s Trail with a Tale in Tunbridge Wells this summer.

The Wild in Art trail will see the individually designed sculptures installed around the town to create a journey of discovery that will be free and family-friendly.

The tortoise sculpture will be painted by children from all three Demelza sites – South East London and East Sussex as well as Kent – and then auctioned off to raise funds once the trail has finished.

Around 100 people came along to a morning session and another 100 joined in with the event in the afternoon.

The Fizz singer Cheryl Baker has supported Demelza for more than 20 years. Speaking at the event, she said: “Demelza is a fantastic place. It's full of joy, it’s full of positivity, it’s full of hope it’s full of laughter. It’s a wonderful place to be involved."
