Bereaved families share memories of their children this Christmas

Candlelight Bereavement

For families who have lost a child, Christmas can be hard.

This year, as part of Demelza’s Bring Sunshine Christmas Appeal, some of our bereaved families have shared photos and memories of their children.

Captured in a montage, these video clips and images show how Christmas can feel dark for families who have lost a child. There are no new memories being made or moments of joy to share.

But they also capture how Demelza helps families find the light and helps them see the memories they already hold.

Demelza gives families the time and space to remember their children, to say their children’s names and to celebrate their lives, bringing a different kind of joy - a different kind of sunshine.

Demelza’s Deputy CEO, Hayley Richardson, said: “We are so grateful to our bereaved families for sharing beautiful memories of their children as part of our Bring Sunshine Christmas Appeal.

“We know that this time of year can be dark for families who have children with serious or life-limiting conditions and especially for those whose children have died.

“Our appeal encourages supporters to donate so families can step away from the noise of everyday life and 24 hour medical care, to just be together and share their memories.”

Demelza’s bereavement support team provides support tailored to a family’s needs - from practical help and advice to counselling and creative arts therapies.

Demelza is currently supporting more than 400 bereaved families and we will be there for them for as long as they need us.

Bring the sunshine to families this Christmas and support your local children’s hospice by donating to our appeal.

“We are so grateful to our bereaved families for sharing beautiful memories of their children as part of our Bring Sunshine Christmas Appeal."
